Breastfeeding: Highlights

Breastfeeding: Highlights

1. You have to be in a calm, preferably sound free environment: living room, bedroom, a bench in the park, or a quiet table at the restaurant.
2. Do not search the web, text nor watch a movie. Be with your baby!
3. I would not even recommend talking to anybody either. Listen to your baby, it is a very unique moment that will be in your life for only one year.
4. Drink a glass of warm (or room temperature) water before and after breastfeeding.
5. Makes sure your baby latches on correctly.
6. She is falling asleep only few minutes into it, no worries, wake her up by tickle her ear, cheeks or feet.
7. I did not burp if she fell asleep. I would just put her on her side into her crib. She rarely woke up to be burped. Keep in mind that your baby might be different.
8. Have a breastfeeding pillow for your baby.
9. One pillow for your back support.
10. Milk flow might be too fast, be ready to lift your baby up if she stats coughing.
11. My favorite nursing position is laying down on the side. It is very comfortable and extremely convenient especially during night feedings.
12. Wash your nipples with soap and water and air dry them for at least 10 minutes. I never used any creams, just an air bath at least 3 times a day.
13. Change her diaper before each feeding.
14. Nurse even if you got sick. Through your breast-milk your baby will get antibodies which will protect her from getting sick. You can wear a mask if that will put your mind at ease. Remember as long as you breastfeed, your baby will not get sick.
15. For your baby breastfeeding is the highlight of the day! Make it special! Loving! Quiet! Unique! Just you and your baby is all that matter!
