Baby's First Birthday!

This weekend our daughter had her First Birthday Party!

Here is what I think parents should know about First Birthdays:

1. First birthdays are mainly for parents and not children. Your baby won't understand that everybody gathered to celebrate her birthday.
2. Your baby won't remember how fancy and nice the party was.
3. Ideal place for a birthday party is your house if you live in one. Your baby will feel confident and comfortable in a familiar environment.
4. We had our birthday party in a restaurant. Not all of our friends are married and have kids, so we wanted a place that everybody can enjoy the atmosphere, eat, drink and have a good time. When choosing a restaurant make sure food and drinks are tasty and prices are reasonable.
5. Pick a place that is not loud and can provide high chairs.
6. Our daughter takes a nap right after lunch, so we decided to have a brunch birthday party. Brunch worked for us because it did not interfere with other kids sleeping schedule and adults did not mind starting a day with a Mimosa.
7. Have a Birthday Registry. Your baby is only one, so you still need: diapers, bibs, baby wash, baby spoons, cups, training pans, etc.
8. Have a registry to help your friends and family give your what your baby needs as well as no one has to carry boxes around. Go online, order it, get it shipped to your door.
9. Try to tell your friends and family to go easy on a baby. She will be very overwhelmed with all the attention. She will get nervous, will get tired fast and most likely would like to be held most of the time. Tell your friends to enjoy your baby's company for no more than 2-3 minutes at a time.
10. I would suggest having no more than 25 guests. Have two birthday parties if you have to, but I would not go over 25 guests. We had 23 guests and we feel that we could have invited a couple of more people but no more than 25.
11. We decorated our table with flowers and balloons.
12. We brought a table toppers and balloons for every child that came to a party. Keep all babies happy!
13. Invited as much family member as you can. It is an amazing occasion to get family together. Have two parties if you have a large family and a large group of friends.
14. Start writing thank you notes as soon as you can. You can also come up with a "Thank You Gift" and bring it to the party.
15. Last but not least save all the First Birthday Card in your baby's scrapbook.
